Ashirvad continues to uphold its commitment to defending the rights and improving the living conditions of marginalized, oppressed, and disadvantaged communities across the state and country. In line with this mission, Ashirvad also focuses on the development and empowerment of indigenous communities, particularly the Siddis residing in and around the villages of Mundgod Taluk in Uttara Kannada District. As part of this initiative, Ashirvad hosted a day-long Siddi Development Program at its campus, dedicated to celebrating the identity and heritage of the Siddi community. The event was marked by reflection, empowerment, and cultural pride. The program began with a warm welcome from Fr. Arun Luis SJ, the Superior and Director of Ashirvad. In his address, he invited the Siddi participants to feel at home and enjoy their day at Ashirvad, emphasizing the importance of recognizing their rights and heritage as a tribal community. The resource person for the day was Fr. Sweebert D’Silva SJ, who delivered an insightful and motivating session. His talk focused on the rights, entitlements, and opportunities available to tribal communities in the Mundgod region. His message deeply resonated with the participants, leaving them feeling informed, empowered, and strengthened. The program also featured vibrant moments of cultural expression, as participants sang traditional Siddi songs and danced to their rhythmic tunes. These performances celebrated their rich cultural identity and brought joy to the gathering. Overall, the day was a meaningful experience for the Siddi participants, who returned home with renewed confidence, awareness, and a sense of pride in their identity.
