Shining Dreams

On 1st November 2023, Ashirvad hosted a vi brant celebration of Annual Day and Karnataka Rajyotsava, organized by the Spandana Slum Study Centre of St. Joseph’s University. The atmosphere was filled with joy as children, dressed in colourful attire, lit up the hall with their smiles, much like the glowing serial lights adorning the venue.

The Spandana Slum Study Centre is the brainchild of Rev. Fr. Arun Luis SJ, Director and Superior of Ashirvad. Drawing from his rich experience with Karnataka Jesuit Province mission centres, Fr. Arun envisioned this initiative to uplift the most marginalized children from Bengaluru’s slums. The first classes began at the SJU campus with the help of student volunteers and committed individuals from the slums themselves.

This special day was not only a celebration of Karnataka’s cultural pride but also a moment to reflect on the achievements of Spandana’s first year. Volunteers and well-wishers who supported the initiative were honoured on stage, congratulating one another for their collective efforts. Fr. Arun, in his welcome speech, extended heartfelt thanks to all for their dedication to the development of the children.

The program was simple yet powerful. Children sang patriotic songs to mark Rajyotsava and performed dances to lively tunes. Winners of various games were awarded prizes, and every child received a gift. The celebration concluded with a hearty meal, leaving everyone with full hearts and joyful memories.
