14th February 2022
A group of 16 selected religious sisters participated in a one-day retreat focused on the theme of discernment, inspired by the teachings of St. Ignatius of Loyola, on 14th February 2022, at Ashirvad. The retreat offered a deep and reflective space for the participants to explore Ignatian discernment and its relevance to their spiritual and daily lives.
The resource person for the day was Fr. Joseph Lobo SJ, who shared his profound knowledge and experience on the subject. Through his inspiring and thought-provoking insights, he guided the sisters in understanding the depth and importance of discerning God’s will in all aspects of life.
The session began with a warm welcome by Fr. Arun Luis, Director of Ashirvad, who encouraged the sisters to absorb the teachings and apply them meaningfully in their everyday decisions and spiritual journeys.
During the retreat, it was highlighted by the Jesuit speakers that even the secular world has drawn valuable lessons from Ignatian discernment, integrating its principles into work culture and decision-making processes. This demonstrates the universal relevance and practical wisdom of Ignatian spirituality.
Ignatian discernment emphasizes choosing the good and acting in ways that are pleasing to the Creator. It involves seeking and responding to God’s will—making choices that harm none but instead reflect the loving purpose of the Father in every action.
The participants found the retreat enriching and empowering. They expressed that they had gained a valuable spiritual tool to assist them in making thoughtful and faithful decisions in their personal and communal lives.
